“George & Ruth” is comprised of actual letters exchanged between newlyweds George and Ruth Watt during George’s time as a volunteer in the Abraham Lincoln Brigade in the Spanish Civil War.  Through heartfelt letters, audiences are transported to a tumultuous period of history and gain insight into the experiences of those who fought in the Spanish Civil War. Ruth, who remained in New York City working hard as both office worker and anti-war activist, provides a unique perspective on the impact of war on those at home, while George's letters reveal his passionate commitment to the cause of freedom and democracy.

The show is accompanied by a brief video intro about George & Ruth as well as images – many by Robert Capa which help bring the letters to greater life.

Following two sold-out performances at The Capa Space, a photography center in Yorktown, NY we were asked to bring the show to Goldens Bridge where Abli Gorn – our amazing musician and vocalist– grew up as a “red baby”. So many in Goldens Bridge are the descendants of the very activists represented in the show. In November 2023, the show was presented at two theatres in Putnam County, NY in honor of Veterans Day: Arts on the Lake and Tompkins Corners Cultural Center.  ALBA - the Abraham Lincoln Brigade Archives also brought the show down to NYC on April 14, 2024.
